Heroes and Legends

two Navajo Marines who served their country in World War II

A tribute to all of the fallen veterans of Lexington School District from all wars and dedication of the Air Force JROTC Center in honor of US Congressman Floyd Davidson Spence.

The Lexington School District One Educational Foundation presented this program to recognize the service of graduates of the high schools of Lexington School District One who served our country. Through the work of a dedicated committee and through the sponsorship of individuals and businesses from the local community, $116,000 was collected and the program honored the late Floyd Spence who served as Congressman from 1970-2001 and to the two graduates of Lexington High School; Thomas Caughman and Almar Fitzgerald and one graduate from White Knoll High School, Joshua Torrence who served so bravely and gave their lives for our country.

The graduates of the high schools in Lexington School District One are honored on the Wall of Honor, a plaque in each district high school which recognizes those who sacrificed their lives in all wars in defense of their country. The speakers for the evening were two Navajo Marines who served their country in World War II as Code Talkers.

The service of all these graduates brings great credit to their friends and family for their unselfish duty to their community, state, and nation.
