A letter to seniors

May 05 2020

Dear Seniors and Your Families:

As you remember, we recently asked our seniors to fill out a survey designed to capture your feelings about graduation and your senior year. We received 447 responses from you and additional feedback from our Student Advisory Council.

Overwhelmingly, you said that you wanted to experience this moment with your class. While we cannot control the circumstances that disrupted this year, we can try to honor your desire to experience this moment together.

Our goal is to have the most authentic graduation ceremony possible while working hard to keep everyone safe. As a result, we will have a modified commencement ceremony for each high school in each school’s football stadium.

Pelion High School graduation takes place on Wednesday, May 27, at 8 a.m.
Gilbert High School graduation takes place on Thursday, May 28, at 8 a.m.
White Knoll High School graduation takes place on Friday, May 29, at 8.m.
Lexington High School graduation takes place on Monday, June 1, at 8 a.m.
River Bluff High School graduation takes place on Wednesday, June 3, at 8 a.m.
Weather make-up days are May 30 and 31, and June 2, 4, and 5.

We will livestream these 8 a.m. ceremonies for the graduates’ families, and each graduate will receive two admission tickets. In fact, we will not only livestream the ceremony so that your families can watch it while it happens, but we will also capture the event, post it on the district’s website, and mail each graduate a DVD later.

Here are those links. Please share!

Schools will protect graduates, their two guests, and staff at all times while they are on campus through strict adherence to social distancing guidelines. We will not endanger our graduates, staff, or their families.

Your principals will send you more specific information about arrival times, temperature taking, masks, traffic flow, dress code, etc., before graduation.

Seniors, we know how difficult this is for you with the loss of so many traditions and time with your peers. However, we believe that you and your accomplishments are important. I look forward to seeing you at graduation.

Sincerely,
Dr. Greg Little, Superintendent
