The first annual “Heart of Lexington One” event was held on January 17, 2008 honoring one of Lexington County’s most prominent citizens, Raymond S. Caughman. Mr. Caughman was recognized for his genuine love and commitment to a community he has loved and served throughout his personal and professional life.
Mr. Caughman has touched thousand of lives during his career. Throughout the years he has been a staunch and outspoken supporter of public education especially his beloved Lexington District one schools. At his request all proceeds from this event were donated to assist in upgrading of media centers in Lexington One schools. Proceeds will benefit the “Raymond Caughman Books for Children.”
Mr. Caughman began his career early serving in the Army, and returned to Lexington and went immediately to work for the Bank of Lexington, Lexington, South Carolina. The Bank of Lexington merged with First National Bank of South Carolina. He served with First National Bank until he left to organize The Lexington State Bank where he served as President, Chief Executive Officer and Member of the Board of Directors, 1966-1994 when The Lexington State Bank merged with BB&T.
Mr. Caughman served as a member and officer of many community organizations which is mentioned in the brochure on our website. With his love and abiding interest in school children he served as a member of the Lexington School District One Foundation from 1998-2004 . The night was filled with warm memories of his dedication to his family, friends and the community of which he has completely filled his life. Mr. Caughman’s contributions will long be remembered after this event and the children of Lexington County can be very proud of the proceeds that funded the media centers with new and creative books.
This special event raised in excess of $98,000 and all Lexington County School District One Schools were allocated funds for their media centers.
