District announces altered food pick-up dates, sites

May 15 2020

In observance of Memorial Day, Lexington County School District One will close on Monday, May 25, 2020. Because of this closure, the district is altering the pick-up dates for the free food program for children.

● On Tuesday, May 26, the district will provide Tuesday’s breakfast and lunch.
● On Wednesday, May 27, the district will provide breakfast and lunch for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

The free food program will continue until June 30, although the pick-up locations have changed.

Beginning Monday, June 1, the pick-up days will return to Mondays and Wednesdays.

● On Mondays, the district provides Monday and Tuesday’s breakfast and lunch.
● On Wednesdays, the district provides breakfast and lunch for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

As a reminder, the program offers free food for children 18 years of age and younger, as well as students with disabilities up to age 21.

Parents can pick up the meals at any one of the following schools designated as “grab and go” sites: Carolina Springs Middle; Forts Pond Elementary; Gilbert Middle (new site as of May 18); Oak Grove Elementary; Saxe Gotha Elementary (new site as of May 18); Rosenwald Community Learning Center; White Knoll Elementary (until May 20 only); White Knoll Middle (new site as of May 26); or the areas designated as bus drop-offs. Please note that you can no longer pick up at Gilbert Primary or Red Bank Elementary. The seven school sites serve food from 11 a.m. through 1 p.m. Check the list of bus drop-off points for times and locations here.

The parent/guardian can have the children in the car or, if they do not have the children, they will need to present some form of valid identification for each child. The child’s school identification card, passport, government-issued identification card, or a homework assignment with the child’s name and school on it will suffice. The parent/guardian will also need to bring a form of identification that proves their relationship to the child, such as an adoption decree, birth certificate, daycare record, religious record or a doctor, clinic or hospital record.
